Working with Cases

GlobaLens teaching materials (cases, mini-cases, profiles, notes, exercises and simulations) can be reviewed and purchased in the Cases section of our website.

Browse through our catalog by using the keyword search or the convenient drop-down menus.  When you specify a search parameter, for example “Base of the Pyramid” under Topic, you will immediately see all of the available material for that topic.  If you choose another parameter, for example “Strategic Management” under Discipline, you will narrow your search to products that conform to both “Base of the Pyramid” and “Strategic Management” parameters.  Use the “Reset” button to change your search.

Your Search Results List will give you brief information regarding products that meet your criteria.  For more information on any product, click on a Product Title or the “Detail” button to take you to the Product Detail Page.

On the Product Detail Page, you will find a more complete description of the teaching material you’re interested in.  Registered Educators (see GlobaLens Membership) will also be able to see a complete PDF of the product (marked DO NOT COPY) and a teaching note, if one is available.  Users who are not Registered Educators will see only the first page of the product and will not see any teaching notes.

Your original product search list appears in the left sidebar of the Product Detail Page.  You may choose another product and navigate directly to the Detail Page for that product by clicking on the desired title.  “New Search” takes you back to the Search Page.

Purchases will be initiated from this page; however, this function is currently not available.  Materials will be available via electronic download or in printed form. If you would like to purchase from GlobaLens, please contact us at sales@globalens.com.

How do I download and use my materials?

Electronic versions of our products are in PDF (Portable Document Format) and should be viewed with Adobe Reader. You can download Adobe Reader for free at www.adobe.com. PDF files of cases and other course materials are available via a link on GlobaLens for six months from the date of purchase.

PDF Files:
Occasionally, users experience difficulties viewing Adobe PDF files with Adobe Acrobat Reader and Internet Explorer. Microsoft & Adobe have documented these problems, and more information is available at their websites. In order to compensate for this problem, we recommend using Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher with Adobe 6 or higher. However, for users who do not want to or cannot upgrade, we recommend the following options to access your PDF files.

Right click and save the file
1. Right click on the file name (for Mac users, try Ctrl + click)
2. Choose “Save As” from the popup menu
3. In the “Save As” dialog box, select a location on your hard drive to save the file
4. Click Save
5. In the Download Complete dialog box, click Open to view your file in Adobe Acrobat Reader, or go to the saved location to open the file.

-OR-

Make Adobe Reader a helper application
If you are using Internet Explorer or AOL, the problem may be caused by a configuration setting between your browser and Acrobat Reader. Below are instructions to enable your browser to use Acrobat Reader as a helper application, which should alleviate the problem.

1. Exit from Internet Explorer or AOL.
2. Start Adobe Acrobat Reader.
3. Go to Edit > Preferences > Options (Acrobat 5.0 and6.0) or to Edit > Preferences >Internet, for Acrobat 7.0.
4. Uncheck or deselect the “Display PDF in Browser option” and Click Ok.
5. Exit from Acrobat. (Acrobat 7.0 & 8.0 may require a restart of your system)
6. Restart Internet Explorer or AOL.

Note: The next time you click on a link to a PDF file in Internet Explorer or AOL, a dialog box will prompt you to specify what to do with the file. If you select “Open this file from its current location,” the browser will open the PDF file in a new Acrobat window. If you select “Save this file to disk,” the browser will save the PDF file to your hard drive, from where you can open it later.

When I purchase a copyright license, what did I buy?

When you purchase an electronic copy of any materials on GlobaLens (a PDF File AND one copyright permission), you have purchased the right to use and print the material for your individual use.  If you intend to make copies of the materials, you must purchase additional copyright permissions, which refers to copies that you print yourself.

For example, if you purchase one PDF file and one copyright permission, and then decide to use the materials in a course you teach, it is your responsibility to purchase additional copyright permissions for each copy you intend to make — normally one per student taking the class.

Copyright Permission Guidelines

Standard Permission

If you already have a clean master copy of an item you’d like to use in your classroom, the fastest way to obtain hard copies for your students is to request permission to copy the material from GlobaLens. This option saves you time since the copies are produced locally at your campus bookstore, university copy service, or nearby copy shop. Securing permission insures you a reduced price and no shipping charges or delays.

You may request copyright permission online. Your profile section on GlobaLens gives educators a flexible home base for planning and delivering course material. Once you have added materials to your library, you may order copyright permission for them and indicate the quantity needed for your course.

Alternatively, you may print a faxable permission form, or call our Customer Service Department at 734.615.9553. You may also email permissions@globalens.com

How do I obtain copyright permission?

Get Copyright Permission

Follow these steps to place an online order for permissions:

  1. Add desired items to your cart.
  2. Select the items from All Materials or your Folders for which you need copyright permission.
  3. Click the Order Copyright Permissions button.
  4. Select and submit the number of reproductions you plan to make per item.
  5. Check out using a purchase order number or credit card.

Note: Orders for copyright permissions refer to copies that you will produce yourself. You will not be shipped a hardcopy of the material or receive an electronic download (i.e., a master copy). If you need a master copy of any item, please follow the steps for purchasing materials under the Purchase tab.
